Les Sadhus
Sadhus are Hindu ascetics who have renounced material attachments to devote themselves to spiritual quest.
The artist uses calligraphy to "write" portraits with piercing gazes. He composes his works through different shades of gray and successive layers of text. The goal is to bring out the sadhu's facial expression and the intensity of his gaze.
Often, the viewer must approach the work to grasp its composition. The paintings are created entirely from calligraphy.
